An Iranian MP has warned against the presence of Taliban militants in Syria, stating that they fuel radicalism in the conflict-stricken Arab state and eventually in the entire Middle East.

MP Baqer Hosseini, who is a member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said on Friday that certain Western states and their reactionary Arab allies in the region are sending militants to Syria in a bid to turn the course of developments in the country into a war of attrition.

He added that the Damascus government has managed to deal heavy blows to terrorist groups ever since crisis began in Syria more than two years ago, and it will soon stun its Western and Arab adversaries.

Hosseini stressed that the United States cannot group terrorists under moderates and radicals.

The Iranian legislator said Washington is trying to conceal its inhumane activities and keep its mask of advocacy for human rights on through defining such boundaries, and announcing plans to send arms to moderate Syrian militants.

He added that the primary goal of Western states and their Arab partners is to disintegrate Syria, and remove it from the anti-Israel resistance front.

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commanders said on July 14 that they have set up camps and sent hundreds of militants to Syria.

“We have established our own camps in Syria. Some of our people go and then return after spending some time fighting there,” a Taliban commander said on condition of anonymity.

On July 12, Mohammad Amin, a Taliban operative and “coordinator of the Syrian base,” said that the Taliban base had been set up in Syria some six months ago. He added that it sends “information and feedback” on the situation in Syria.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions of others displaced in the violence.
