A senior Syrian legislator slammed the UN Security Council’s resolution to deploy UN observers to Aleppo to monitor evacuations as a new plot by the West and its regional allies against Syria.

“They want to replace their terrorist mercenaries with forces who work under the name of international observers on the pretext of being concerned about the Syrian nation,” Fares Junaydan told FNA on Wednesday.

Voicing regret that the international community has forgotten the pains of thousands of Syrian people in Fua’a and Kafraya who have been under the terrorists’ siege in Idlib province for nearly two years without any access to the most basic needs, and said, “The Westerners seek to influence the decision of the terrorists who have decided to surrender their weapons to the Syrian government by sending the international observers to Aleppo.”

The UN Security Council unanimously passed a resolution requiring the monitoring of evacuations from Aleppo.

The resolution, initially drafted by France, was originally called a “disaster” by Russia’s UN envoy Vitaly Churkin.

However, Moscow and Paris came to an agreement on the text after more than three hours of closed-door consultations by the Council on Sunday.

The resolution asked UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon “to take urgent steps to make arrangements, including security arrangements in consultation with interested parties, to allow the observation by the United Nations and other relevant institutions of the well-being of civilians… inside the eastern districts of the city of Aleppo.”

Based on the latest reports 15,500 militants and their families have thus far left Aleppo and the army has called for faster evacuation of militant from the Eastern neighborhoods to dispatch engineering units to defuse terrorist-planed bombs and mines in the newly-freed districts.

A military source disclosed on Tuesday that a growing number of militants that had earlier called for evacuation from Aleppo refused relocation to terrorist-held regions in Idlib and turned themselves in to the Syrian Army troops, applying for amnesty.

The source said that while over 3,400 militants turned themselves in to the government forces since the army started operation in Aleppo’s Eastern neighborhoods, a growing number of more militants and their families asked for government amnesty.

The militants that applied for amnesty rejected relocation to Idlib.
