Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that attempts to sow discord among Muslims have nothing to do with Islam and Islamic tenets.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of meeting with senior clerics in Qom, he added that threat of extremism is very serious and all Muslim states should address it all together.

‘Based on the Constitution, we are duty-bound to support the oppressed and Muslims and address their plights,’ Zarif said.

He further noted, ‘Our priority is our neighbors and Islamic states. My trips in the past two years were mainly destined to neighboring and Muslim states, except the countries hosting nuclear talks.’

‘We will maintain the priorities because we believe they are of special significance for our national interests,’ the minister said.

Touching on Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Zarif said that Foreign Ministry has appointed a special headquarter to pursue the deal from legal, political, technical and economic perspectives.

‘My colleagues are seriously monitoring the opposite party’s moves,’ he said.
