Senior security official states Iran not regret spending in Syria

Ali Akbar Ahmadian, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), stated that the resources allocated by Iran in its efforts against the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in Syria were justified. He emphasized that these expenditures were instrumental in safeguarding the security of the Islamic Republic.

In an interview with Khamenei.ir, the official platform of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, comments were made on Thursday following the announcement by foreign-supported militants regarding the fall of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria, a country where Iranian military advisors have been active.

He was questioned regarding the campaigns by anti-Iranian media outlets concerning Tehran’s military advisory involvement in Syria over recent years.

He stated, “We stand by the expenses we undertook, as they were invested in safeguarding our own security, and we attained the anticipated objectives.”

“If the Daesh group had not been eradicated in Syria and Iraq, the battle against it would now be taking place on domestic soil, at an expense tenfold higher.”

According to Ahmadian, the complete eradication of Daesh has effectively derailed the United States’ strategic plans, rendering years of investment ineffective.

He emphasized that the United States attempted to establish a military force or government to counter the Islamic Revolution, but Iran successfully thwarted their efforts. This accomplishment, he noted, justifies Iran’s involvement in Syria.

In 2014, the militant group Daesh swiftly seized significant territories in Iraq and Syria, subsequently proclaiming the establishment of a “caliphate” over the regions under its control.

Iraqi and Syrian military forces, supported by Iran, successfully countered and reversed the advances made by Daesh, ultimately liberating their nations from the influence of the terror group, which had previously received backing from the United States. This significant military achievement was accomplished approximately three years after the initial conflict began.

On December 8, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militants declared the collapse of President Assad’s government after a swift two-week offensive.

In another segment of the interview, the senior security official stated that Iran has successfully bolstered and equipped both Palestine and Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance group, ultimately enabling them to achieve self-sufficiency.

In a recent statement, it was asserted that Hezbollah operates as a fully autonomous and self-sufficient organization. It was further noted that, as an example, resistance fighters in Gaza have developed the capability to manufacture their own rockets and missiles within tunnel networks.

Ahmadian emphasized the significant influence wielded by Hezbollah, alongside Yemen’s Ansarullah movement and the Palestinian resistance factions of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

He stated that it is not possible to eradicate groups such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, and Ansarullah, as they have integrated into the local population. These groups are now well-equipped, mature, and possess the necessary knowledge and technology to produce the resources required for their own defense.
