Economic Crisis Looms in Northern Settlements Amid War Risk with Hezbollah: Businesses Struggle as Tensions Rise

Israeli media reports reveal that businesses in Kiryat Shmona, Shlomi, and other northern areas have taken a hit, with expenditures dropping significantly.

The ongoing confrontation and escalation between Hezbollah and the Israeli occupation forces, has led to closures of thousands of businesses since October 7, 2023, causing widespread economic hardship.

Amid the crisis, food insecurity has become a major concern. The GFI Center of Food Safety and Security warns of potential shortages and price hikes for animal protein supplies, as well as challenges in import deliveries in case of an expanded conflict. Without a national food security plan in place, ‘Israel’ faces a daunting challenge in ensuring food supply stability.

With the threat of Hezbollah’s firepower looming large, farmers in the north are bearing the brunt of the economic fallout. Difficulties in accessing farmland near the border have led to losses amounting to millions of shekels. As fears of a broader ongoing confrontation persist, calls for caution in agricultural activities have been raised to mitigate further financial damages.

As the situation remains volatile, the Israeli government grapples with the prospect of a full-blown war and its impact on the economy of northern settlements. As uncertainty looms, residents and businesses brace for the challenging times ahead.
