Six individuals martyred following ‘israeli’ airstrikes targeting border crossings between Lebanon and Syria

At least six individuals have lost their lives following a series of airstrikes conducted by Israeli warplanes targeting multiple border crossings between Syria and Lebanon.

According to a military source quoted by Syria’s state news agency SANA, Israeli forces initiated an airstrike at 00:05 a.m. local time on Wednesday (2105 GMT Tuesday). The attack originated from Lebanese territory and targeted border crossing areas between Syria and Lebanon.

According to the source, the attack resulted in the deaths of six individuals, comprising two soldiers alongside four civilians. Additionally, 12 people sustained injuries, including children, women, and workers from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

According to reports from the source, Israeli strikes have inflicted considerable damage on the border crossings that were targeted.

According to reports from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Israeli military aircraft conducted airstrikes targeting official crossings at al-Arida, located in the western province of Tartus, marking the first such incident in the area. Additionally, airstrikes were reportedly carried out at Daboussieh and Jusiyah in the central-western province of Homs.

According to a Britain-based monitoring group, unofficial border crossings in Wadi Khaled located in rural Homs, along with three bridges spanning the al-Kabir River which demarcates the boundary between Syria and Lebanon, were also targeted.

The recent strikes have reportedly disabled most of the land border crossings between Syria and Lebanon, as reported by the observatory.

According to Syrian state television, a total of 18 individuals sustained injuries at the al-Arida crossing, with three of them being in critical condition.

According to a report by Sham FM radio station, six individuals have died and 15 others were injured at the Daboussieh crossing in Homs.

Israel frequently carries out airstrikes targeting military installations in Syria, focusing on those linked to the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah. Hezbollah has played a key role in aiding the Syrian military in its fight against terrorist groups supported by foreign entities.

Numerous civilians have been reported as casualties in these recent attacks.

Recent Israeli airstrikes targeting Syria have occurred concurrently with intensified military operations by Israel in the Gaza Strip and actions affecting the Lebanese region.

In the wake of the unprecedented military operation dubbed “Al-Aqsa Flood” by Palestinian resistance groups on October 7, 2023, Israel launched a comprehensive campaign of air and ground strikes across Gaza. The offensive targeted hospitals, residential neighborhoods, and religious sites, escalating tensions in the region.

Hezbollah has established a support front for Palestinians in Gaza, merely a day after Israel launched a significant military offensive against the blockaded region. The group’s actions involve targeting Israeli positions within the occupied territories as a show of solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
