ISIS launched a powerful assault at the Al-Baghayliyah District after a four day hiatus to concentrate their forces near the Deir Ezzor Military Airport. ISIS began their attack in the Al-Baghayliyah District around 9:00 A.M. (Damascus Time) when they launched a powerful assault on the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) front-line defenses at Al-Jazeera University, striking the facility’s northern and western flanks with heavy machine gun fire and a barrage of mortar shells.

Following their preliminary assault on Al-Jazeera, ISIS would conduct another series of attacks at the Firat Al-Sham Hotel and Tal Al-Rawad in the Al-Baghayliyah District, which is located along the western bank of the vast Euphrates River. However, the ISIS assault on the Al-Baghayliyah District did not quite produce the results they were looking for; instead, they were repelled by the joint forces of the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard and the 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division.

According to a military source in the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, the Syrian Armed Forces killed an estimated 30 enemy combatants, while also destroying 3 armored vehicles that were mounted with 23 mm anti-aircraft machine guns.
