The arrogant nature of the US ruling system has caused a vast array of Washington’s strategic mistakes, which continue to wreak havoc on humanity, a political analyst writes for Press TV website.

“The arrogance and hubris that defines the US government has rendered Washington incapable of making a rational, logical decision,” Paul Craig Roberts wrote in a Sunday article for Press TV, adding that megalomania rules in Washington.

“Washington is devoid of humanitarian concerns. Hegemony is Washington’s only concern. As in Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, Pakistan, Yemen, Ukraine, Syria, and Iraq, Washington brings only death, and death is ongoing in Iraq.”

The political commentator pointed to Washington’s strategic mistake in undermining Iraq’s national integrity following the 2003 war, saying that similar US plots in Libya and Syria have merely opened Pandora’s Box and led to the rise of extremist groups, turning the Middle East into an “al-Qaeda conquest.”

A decade after the US war on Iraq, the country has turned into a scene of militancy and Takfiri extremism.

The so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) Takfiri terrorist group has captured two Iraqi provincial capitals over the past few days, namely Tikrit in Salahuddin Province, and Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, in the northern province of Nineveh.

The Iraqi army is currently battling the terrorists on the outskirts of the city of Muqdadiyah, situated northeast of Baquba, in Iraq’s eastern province of Diyala.

The extremist terrorists have threatened to take their acts of violence to other Iraqi cities, including the capital, Baghdad.
