Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham has described as “inhuman” the recent wave of deadly bombings and explosions across violence-stricken Iraq.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the crimes which are aimed at hurting Iraq’s national unity and considers them unjustifiable,” said the Iranian diplomat on Wednesday.

“We hope that the Iraqi nation, under the guidance … of their religious and political leaders, defeat violence-seeking and extremism and tread the path of strengthening stability and security,” Afkham stated.

Insurgents affiliated with al-Qaeda have stepped up their attacks in Iraq over the past months targeting both Sunni and Shia Muslims.

Earlier on Wednesday, at least 12 people, including 10 security forces, were killed in deadly bombing and shooting attacks across Iraq.

Also on Tuesday, a series of coordinated bomb attacks and shootings claimed at least 50 lives in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, and 20 more in other cities across the country.

The United Nations said in a report on September 1, that more than 800 people had been killed and 2,000 injured in the month of August.

According to the world body, a total of 1,057 Iraqis, including 928 civilians, were killed and another 2,326 were wounded in terrorist attacks throughout the country in July — the deadliest month since 2008.

Iraq’s Interior Ministry has accused militants of launching an open war in Iraq and wanting to push the Middle Eastern country into chaos.

“The country is currently facing an open war from bloodthirsty sectarian forces that aim to plunge the country into chaos,” the Iraqi ministry said in a statement issued on July 30.
