Students slam Saudi ‘genocide’ in Yemen

A group of students has held demonstrations in front of the Iranian Foreign Ministry in protest to the Saudi Arabian-Yemeni offensive against Muslim fighters.

The students condemned Saudi Arabia’s “genocide” in Yemen and called on the foreign ministry to expel the Saudi Ambassador to Tehran.

Riyadh began its offensive against the Houthi fighters more than two months after the Yemeni government launched ‘Operation Scotched Earth’ to crush Houthi resistance in the mountainous north.

Saudis claim that the air strikes are aimed at forcing the fighters to withdraw dozens of kilometers from the Saudi-Yemeni border.

“Saudi Arabia’s direct interference [in Yemen] and the violations of human rights are clear to all,” said an organizer of the demonstration.

“We demand that the foreign ministry make an active change in its policies towards this issue.”

The offensive has so far killed scores of civilians and left thousands displaced.

The students have said they will continue the demonstration until Wednesday.
