Elite Syrian troops launch assault on imperative rebel stronghold in east Damascus

Storming units of the Syrian Army’s elite Tiger Forces Division have kicked-off a powerful assault to seize the all-important militant stronghold town of Mudayrah in Damascus’ East Ghouta region.

The well-informed Muraselon new group, citing own sources, reports that the elite formation launched its attack on Mudayrah just moments ago.

Given the current situation, Mudayrah has immense strategic value – the town’s capture by the Syrian Army will result in the splitting of the East Ghouta pocket into two. Should the assault by government forces succeed, the city of Douma and town of Harasta will be isolated from other rebel-held areas in region further south.
