Iran Once Again Stresses Political Solution to Yemen Crisis

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani renewed Tehran’s support for a political solution to the crisis in Yemen.
“We can be hopeful about ending this crisis only through holding national talks,” Larijani said in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Riyadh Hossein Sadeqi here on Tuesday.

The Iranian parliament speaker expressed the hope that the Saudi-led attacks on Yemen will come to a halt soon.

Sadeqi, for his part, briefed Larijani on the latest developments in Yemen.

On April 22, Iranian lawmakers in a statement deplored the Saudi-led coalition’s military strikes against Yemen, and reiterated their support for the Yemeni people.

“We as members of the Iranian parliament condemn the Saudi regime’s aggression waged in collaboration with the US and the Zionist regime and call on the freedom-seeking nations of the world to act upon their human responsibility to support the Yemeni nation’s rights and fight the suppressors and aggressors,” the statement read by Zarqam Sadeqi, a member of the parliament’s Presiding Board, said.

Stressing that the Yemeni people will certainly achieve victory through patience and resistance, the statement said that the Saudi regime’s hostile approach towards Muslim states was revealed by its attacks and massacring the Yemeni people.

Riyadh launched its airstrikes against Yemen on March 26 without a UN’s mandate. Saudi Arabia aims to undermine the Ansarullah popular fighters and restore power to fugitive President Mansour Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.

Despite Riyadh’s claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi warplanes are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.

On April 21, Riyadh announced the end of its military operations, but airstrikes have continued with Saudi bombers targeting different areas across the country in a new phase.

The monarchy’s aerial bombardments have so far claimed the lives of at least 3,163 people, mostly women and children.
