Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Preparing for Battle in Rankus

Army Preparing for Battle in Rankus

The Syrian army has now turned its sights towards a strategic region in the Damascus countryside after it tightened its grip over Felita and Ras Al-Ma’areh towns in the same region.

The army units plan to increase their grip on Rankus region in a bid to complete their control over areas along the Lebanese border, FNA dispatches said on Sunday.

Also in the past 24 hours, the Syrian army foiled an attempt by the foreign-backed terrorists to regain control of a strategic mountain in Aleppo countryside in the Northern parts of the country.

The army units pushed back a group of Chechen and Caucasian terrorists who were trying to take control of Al-Shavihaneh mountain in Northern Aleppo.

Meantime, Syrian army units carried out military operations on Saturday against militants’ dens and gatherings, killing many, injuring others and destroying their weapons in several areas.

Elsewhere, an army unit foiled a militant groups’ attempt to infiltrate from Bilal al-Habashi Mosque into al-Manshiyeh neighborhood in Daraa city, killing many of its members and injuring others.

Also, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Fayssal Mikdad said the escalation started by the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the borders with Syria under flimsy pretexts was a move in support of the terrorist groups.

In an article published by the Lebanese newspaper al-Bina’a, Mikdad said that Syria is fighting a war against various forms of terrorism which are all well known to their host Erdogan, who is fully aware of their scale, the kind of weapons they use, and the crimes they commit.

Syrian envoy called on the United Nations to investigate a leaked file containing discussions by top Turkish authorities on how to stage a false-flag operation to justify invasion of Damascus.

“I’d like to refer once again to this audio tape leak by the Turkish foreign minister and the deputy chief of staff of the Turkish army,” Syrian Ambassador to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari said on Friday, adding that the Turkish officials talked about the attack by “sending a terrorist group inside the Syrian territory”.

“And then this group is supposed to launch eight missiles within the Turkish territory and it would be a justification for further Turkish aggression against Syria,” the Syrian envoy stated.

He also denounced some members of the UN Security Council and its secretariat for refusing to hear the truth about the situation in Syria, saying those countries themselves are “deeply involved” in “spreading terrorism” across the Arab country.

The audio file uploaded on YouTube is a recording of Turkey’s intelligence chief Hakan Fidan, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Deputy Chief of Military Staff Yasar Guler, and other senior officials discussing the possible assault.

Ankara reacted to the anonymous posting by blocking users’ access to YouTube throughout Turkey, saying the leaking of the controversial recording had created “a national security issue”.
