Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Repels ISIL Attack Near Iraqi Borders, Reinvigorates Positions in Eastern Deir Ezzur

The Damascus army fended off the ISIL terrorists' offensive from Eastern Euphrates on military points in Eastern Syria over the past 24 hours.

The Syrian army troops on Wednesday engaged in heavy clashes with a group of terrorists near the town of Bu Kamal in Eastern Deir Ezzur who intended to infiltrate from Baqouz region in Eastern Euphrates into the army-controlled areas.

A large number of militants were killed and wounded during the several-hour clashes and others were forced to flee.

Meantime, the Syrian army continued its military advances in other parts of Syria over past 24 hours.

Tens of terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured during the Syrian army’s operations in provinces across Syria.

Deir Ezzur

The Syrian army warded off the ISIL terrorists’ offensive from Eastern Euphrates on military points in Eastern Syria.

The Damascus army forces on Wednesday engaged in heavy clashes with a group of terrorists near the town of Bu Kamal in Eastern Deir Ezzur who intended to infiltrate from Baqouz region in Eastern Euphrates into the army-controlled areas.

A large number of militants were killed and wounded during the several-hour clashes and others were forced to flee.

Meantime, field sources in Eastern Syria also reported that the Syrian army has strengthened its positions in Bu Kamal in recent days by sending tens of fresh forces and new military equipment.

Also on Wednesday, the ISIL was heavily suppressed by the Syrian army in the Eastern Badiyeh (Desert) of Homs province.

The Syrian army units engaged in fierce clashes with the ISIL militants in regions near the T2 Station in Eastern Homs, killing a number of them.

Meantime, the artillery units of the Syrian army targeted the positions and movements of terrorists in areas near the clashes region, destroying several of their strongholds and military equipment and inflicting tolls on them.

Also, the Syrian air force bombed the ISIL moves on the road linking Hamimeh region and T2 station and in the Eastern parts of the town of Palmyra and regions near the borders between Homs and Eastern Deir Ezzur, smashing several targets and killing and wounding a number of terrorists.

Hama-Idlib

The Syrian and Russian air forces heavily pounded and smashed the main stronghold and arms cache of Tahrir al-Sham al-Hay’at (the Levant Liberation Board or the Al-Nusra Front) in response to the terrorist group’s continued attacks from the demilitarized zone in Hama and Idlib.

The Arabic-language al-Watan newspaper reported that Tahrir al-Sham’s base near Jabal al-Zawiyeh region in Southwestern Idlib and Nabi Ayoub hill was fiercely attacked by the Russian and Syria warplanes on Wednesday in response to their offensives.

Meantime, the Arabic-language service of Sputnik news agency reported that one of the main bases of Tahrir al-Sham that hosted a meeting of a number of terrorists and one of their arms and military equipment cache which was used to target residential areas were destroyed during the Syrian army’s airstrikes against Jabal al-Zawiyeh region.

It added that the Syrian army forces also launched artillery and missile strikes against the terrorists’ movements to transfer weapons and military equipment towards their positions in al-Tah, al-Tamane’ah and Khan Sheikoun in Southern Idlib, killing a number of militants and destroying their military equipment.

Also, in Northern Hama, the Syrian army troops targeted the positions and movements of the terrorists in the towns of Jisr Beit al-Ra’as, al-Hawiz, Qastoun and al-Sramaniyeh in Sahl al-Qab in response to their missile attacks against the army points in the towns of al-Karim, Mashari and the residential areas in the towns of al-Rasif and al-Aziziyeh.

Raqqa

The dead bodies of over 60 victims killed in US-led coalition airstrikes and ISIL attacks have been discovered under the rubble and mass-graves in Raqqa.

Media activists in Raqqa reported that the civil teams in the city found the corpses of 13 people from a mass-grave in al-Fakhikheh region in Southern Raqqa and 4 others from the debris of al-Ta’aminat district who had been killed in the US airstrikes.

They added that the corpses of 48 other civilians, including several women and children, were discovered from the mass-grave and rubbles in al-Fakhikheh districts.

Aleppo

Turkey-backed militants still continue detention of civilians and plundering of historical artifacts in Afrin region in Northwestern Aleppo.

The Kurdish-language Hawar News quoted sources in the village of Simalka in Mobata region in Afrin as saying on Thursday that the terrorists affiliated to Ankara excavated the regions near historical monuments in Hasiyeh hill in the Western parts of the village with heavy vehicles to find artifacts.

Also, the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that over 2,680 civilians in Afrin have been detained by the Turkish army and affiliated militants, adding that they receive over 10mln Syrian lira for releasing the detained people.

Meantime, field sources in Afrin said that the local people are angry with the Turkish army and affiliated militants’ measures in the region, adding that nearly 100 residents of the village of Marimin gathered near one of the military bases in the village and prevented the Turkish army’s drilling operations to develop the base.
