Syria needless of Iran military support in fight against militants: Tehran

Syria needless of Iran military support

Iranian deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs says Syria does not require the Islamic Republic’s military assistance in its fight against foreign-backed Takfiri militants.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Thursday that the recent victory scored by Syrian troops in the strategic town of al-Qusayr was the result of the struggles and perseverance of Syrian nation and army as “the Syrian government does not need Iranian fighters and weapons.”

The Iranian diplomat made the remarks in response to a Wednesday statement by White House spokesman, Jay Carney, claiming that the Syrian government “could not contest the opposition’s control of Qusayr on its own, and is depending upon Hezbollah and Iran to do its work for it in Qusayr.”

Amir-Abdollahian, however, reiterated that the Islamic Republic will continue its strong support for Syria.

The Syrian army managed to fully recapture the western town of al-Qusayr, an important center and supply route for the foreign-sponsored militants fighting against the Arab state, following three weeks of combat, Syria’s state television reported on Wednesday.

Many of the foreign-backed militants and members of the armed groups were reportedly killed or injured during the Syrian army operation to clean Qusayr from terrorists.

Foreign-sponsored militancy in Syria, which erupted in March 2011, has claimed the lives of many people, including large numbers of Syrian soldiers and security personnel.
