Syria: Terrorist organizations only beneficiary of US-led Coalition’s attacks

foreign-ministry-1

Foreign and Expatriates Ministry affirmed on Thursday that the destruction of two bridges on the Euphrates River by the US-led Coalition affirms that the method of this coalition is based on bombing and destroying the infrastructure and Syrian economic and social facilities, adding that terrorist organizations are that only beneficiary of the Coalition’s attacks.

Aircrafts of the US-led international Coalition launched strikes on two main bridges on the Euphrates River that resulted in the destruction of al-Asharah Bridge that links the river’s two banks in the eastern countryside of the province only few hours after destroying al-Mayadin Bridge. The destruction of the two bridges aims at disconnecting the areas located on both banks of the river.

In two letters addressed by the ministry to the UN Secretary-General and head of the Security Council on the destruction of two main bridges on the Euphrates River in the countryside of Deir Ezzor province, the ministry said that it comes as part of the continued attacks by the so-called US-led international coalition on the basic services’ facilities and infrastructure in the Syrian Arab Republic under the pretext “war against ISIS terrorist organization”.

The ministry pointed out in its letters that the US deliberate destruction of two bridges came within a series of attacks and after the US blatant aggression which led to killing and injuring tens of Syrian army’s personnel in Deir Ezzor on September 17.

In the letters, the ministry said that the government of the Syrian Arab Republic reaffirmed the illegality of the acts of the so-called US-led international coalition because it was established outside the framework of international law and contrary to the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and without prior coordination and full cooperation with the government of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The ministry added that the attempt to rely on Article no.51 of the Charter to justify the establishment of the Coalition represents a distorted interpretation of the provisions of the Charter and exploitation of its articles to achieve political goals by particular countries.

The ministry said that the only beneficiary of these criminal and aggressive acts is the extremist terrorist organizations, mainly ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra, which seek to spread chaos and destruction in the Syrian Arab Republic, pointing out that the developments proved a lack of seriousness on the part of the United States and its allies in confronting those organizations.

The ministry concluded its letters by saying that the Syrian Arab Republic calls on the UN Security Council to condemn this aggression and to compel member states of the international coalition to stop the deliberate destruction of infrastructure in Syria and to respect international law and the UN resolutions related to the fight against terrorism.
