Syrian Air Defense Shoots down Intruder Israeli Drone

The Syrian air defense shot down an Israeli drone over the Syrian part of the Golan Heights on Tuesday afternoon.

The air defense units opened fire at an Israeli drone and shot it down over the small town of Hadhar in the Syrian part of the Golan Heights in Northern Quneitra.

In the meantime, Israeli media sources claimed that the drone crashed in Hadhar at the borders of the occupied Golan Heights due to technical problems.

Also, spokesman of the Israeli Army announced that an Israeli Rokhif Shamayem drone crashed over Hadhar in the Syrian territory.

The Israel drone, which was among Skylark class UAVs, was a small drone of the Israeli military used for spying and reconnaissance missions.

The Arabic-language website of Sputnik quoted a military source in the Russian Defense Ministry as reporting in April that Russia delivered 40 different models of advanced Pantsir-S1 air defense systems to Syria in recent years.

It further said that the Russia-made Pantsir-S1 was designed for protecting military and non-military sites and for protecting other mid-range and long-range anti-aircraft missile systems, including S300 and S400 against aerial threats.

The system is also capable of destroying ground and sea targets that use light shields from 20km in distance.

Also, the Arabic-language website of RT reported in January that the Syrian Army was vastly using Mirage-2 Electronic Defense System to deactivate the US-manufactured TOW anti-tank missiles.

The Arabic RT further said that the System that was mounted on the army tanks, armored and light vehicles was capable of deactivating TOW missiles.

The Mirage-2 System is equipped with more noise breaks in comparison with the older version of Mirage-1.
