Maliki calls up Iraq’s reserve officers

0f14d202110ea81af43121d3e75146b9_LIraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has ordered reserve security officers back to active duty in an effort to boost forces fighting the Takfiri terrorists operating in the Arab state.

According to Press TV, the Iraqi premier in a television statement on Thursday said “Officers from brigadier general and lower have been transferred … to units according to their specialization and classification.”
Maliki’s order applies to an unknown number of reserve officers who are still members of the armed forces but are not currently assigned to duty.
This comes as Iraqi armed forces have managed to regain control of the Abu Tayban region in the central city of Ramadi and almost all parts of the strategic town of Tal Afar in Nineveh province.
Iraqi soldiers have also regained control over Baiji oil refinery in the strategic Salahuddin Province after the militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) attacked the oil facility earlier this week.
On June 10, the ISIL militants took control of the Nineveh provincial capital Mosul, which was followed by the fall of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of the capital, Baghdad.
The Iraqi prime minister has vowed that the country’s security forces would confront the foreign-sponsored terrorists, describing the seizure of Mosul as a “conspiracy.”
