Syrian Army Dispatches More Forces, Equipment to Continue Anti-ISIL Operation in Eastern Homs

The Syrian Army has fortified its positions in the newly-liberated regions near the town of al-Sukhnah in Eastern Homs, a military source said on Wednesday, adding that the army has also forwarded more troops and military equipment to the region to continue the operation to liberate Deir Ezzur from ISIL’s occupation.

The source said that the army soldiers have fortified their positions 2km East of al-Sukhnah and 1km North of the newly-liberated town towards the village of al-Tayebah.

The source further said that a large number of fresh soldiers and a large volume of military hardware have been sent by the army to al-Sukhnah to be used in the pro-government forces’ upcoming operation from the Eastern part of al-Sukhnah towards the villages of al-Koum and al-Tayebah.

According to field reports, clashes between the army men and ISIL terrorists are still underway in al-Sukhnah region, while the Russian Air Force has been targeting ISIL’s positions Northeast of al-Sukhnah and in the villages of al-Koum and al-Tayebah, inflicting major losses on the militants.

Relevant reports said on Tuesday that the army soldiers stormed ISIL’s defense lines North-East of Palmyra (Tadmur) in their push towards Deir Ezzur and managed to capture several positions near the villages of al-Koum and al-Tayebah.

In the meantime, the Syrian Air Force bombed ISIL’s movements and strongholds in the villages of Um Sahrij, Um Tweinah, Tweinan and al-Shandakhiyeh in Eastern Homs and in Humeimeh region near the provincial border with Deir Ezzur, destroying their command center, vehicles and military equipment.

Also, the army men repelled ISIL’s heavy attack on pro-government forces’ positions around al-Sukhnah, killing a number of them and forcing the remaining pockets of them to retreat.
