Syrian Army liberates first town after crossing Euphrates River

Minutes ago, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) liberated their first town along the eastern bank of the Euphrates River after crossing this vast waterway in the Deir Ezzor Governorate yesterday.

Led by elements of the Republican Guard, the Syrian Arab Army liberated the town of Marat this afternoon, following an intense battle with the Islamic State (ISIL) forces present in the area.

Following the liberation of Marat, the Syrian Arab Army pushed their way to the town of Khasham, where they were involved in another tense battle with the Islamic State terror organization.

According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army has liberated at least half of Khasham after overrunning the Islamic State’s first line of defense at the western part of the town.

The Syrian Arab Army crossed the Euphrates River from the town of Al-Muri’iyah, yesterday, marking the first time during this war that the military has made an amphibious landing along the eastern bank of this waterway.
