Two terror plots thwarted ahead of elections: Intelligence min.

Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi says the country’s security forces have defused two terror plots in southeastern and northwestern parts of the country ahead of Friday’s general elections.
Alavi told reporters on Sunday that a “Takfiri element” was identified in Iran’s southeastern border regions on February 8, and added that the terrorist carried two remote-control handmade bombs.

He added that security forces also seized explosive materials along with explosive charges as well as a magnetic bomb from the terrorist.

The minister said on February 24, Iranian intelligence and security forces also arrested members of a terrorist group that intended to infiltrate into the country via western border areas and carry out acts of terror inside Iran.

Alavi noted that explosive belts, electronic detonators, and explosive powder were seized from the four-member terrorist group, thus thwarting its attempt to cause insecurity ahead of the elections.

He emphasized that “there is no blind spot on the Intelligence Ministry’s radar” and that the ministry will do its utmost to establish sustainable security in the country and prevent hostile elements from compromising the nation’s security.

At least 33 million out of the 55 million eligible voters took part in Iran’s 5th Assembly of Experts and 10th parliamentary elections on Friday.
