Syrian Army makes new push from east Palmyra to lift siege on Deir Ezzor

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) made a new push in the eastern countryside of Palmyra, Monday, targeting the last hilltops located west of the Arak Gas Fields.

Backed by heavy Russian airstrikes, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Legion and Tiger Forces, alongside Liwaa Al-Quds (Palestinian paramilitary), attacked the Al-Hikmat Hills that are located directly east of Palmyra.

The pro-government forces would score several direct hits on the Islamic State’s (ISIL) defenses this morning, paving the way for their 3km advance east towards the village of Arak.

According to a military source, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies are making another push to reach the key town of Sukhnah, which is located directly along the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor Highway in eastern Syria.
