Syrian crisis caused by foreign intervention: Iran envoy

Iran’s ambassador to Syria says the Syrian crisis is caused by irresponsible interventions of some countries particularly the US and the Zionist regime of Israel which send weapons and money to irresponsible armed groups.

Talking on the sidelines of the Syria Salvation Conference, Mohammad-Reza Raouf-Sheibani added that only the Syrian people should determine their destiny and the Islamic Republic of Iran is against any kind of foreign meddling especially military intervention in Syria.

Sheibani noted that the conference is a positive move as it underlines the necessity of putting an end to violence, finding a political solution to the crisis and starting constructive talks between the Syrian government and the opposition groups.

The Iranian ambassador also announced Tehran’s readiness to offer its capacities to the Syrian people to help them to pass through the existing sensitive stage.

The Syria Salvation Conference, organized by the National Coordination Body (NCB), was also attended by Iranian, Russian and Chinese envoys.

A statement distributed to journalists said the participants in the conference had agreed on a number of principles, including a peaceful political solution to the country’s unrest and an immediate ceasefire.

Syria’s foreign-backed opposition groups and the terrorist Free Syrian Army (FSA) refused to attend the meeting.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.

The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the armed militants are foreign nationals.
