Lebanese Army Deployed to Tripoli after 3 Killed, 34 Wounded

The Lebanese army fortified its posts and was heavily deployed to Lebanon’s northern city of Tipoli, mainly in Syria Street that separates the rival districts of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen, the National News Agency said on Friday.
On Thursday, a child was killed and several people were wounded in the clashes that erupted in Tripoli following the death of a man who died from injuries that he endured during a shooting that morning.

The NNA said that the gunfire shot from a sporadic sniper injured two other people on Friday, which increased the number of the wounded to 34 and raised the death toll to 3 people after Asma Horooq had died of her wounds in a governmental hospital in the city.

Furthermore, local media outlets stated that the Arab Democratic Party announced a ceasefire and held negotiations with the families of the victims who were killed in Tripoli’s twin blasts from last August in order to restore rest in the area.
Other media said that the military also arrested four gunmen, including a Syrian national, in al-Qobbeh area.

Earlier, the army said in a communique that the measures undertaken by its units in Tripoli decreased tensions between the rival neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen despite the ongoing sectarian and political clashes.
Tripoli’s frequent clashes between residents of the Jabal Mohsen district and those in the neighboring Bab al-Tabbaneh date back to Lebanon’s 1975-1990 civil war.
