Syrian troops gain more grounds in their anti-terror operations

Syrian government forces continue with their advances against Takfiri terrorism on several fronts across the war-torn country.     

On Wednesday, army troops, backed by popular defense groups, regained full control over the Tallet al-Naqqar al-Gharbyieh hill, located in the northern side of the southern Quneitra province, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.

According to military sources, a large number of terrorists were killed in the operations, which also resulted in the destruction of the militants’ ammunition.

In the country’s southwestern city of Dara’a, a large number of militants were killed after a successful operation aimed at destroying a terrorist hideout there.

In the western province of Hama, some 50 terrorists were killed during clashes with government troops, while a militant headquarters, an arms depot and several armed vehicles were also destroyed during the operations.

Over 20 terrorists were killed during army operations against Daesh positions across several neighborhoods in Syria’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr. An attack against the province’s airport was also repelled, during which 10 foreign-backed militants were killed.

The Syrian air force also launched a series of airstrikes on terrorists’ positions in the province of Homs, killing a large number of them and destroying several of their military equipment.

Syria has been hit by deadly militancy it blames on some Western countries and their regional allies since March 2011.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura have put the death toll from the conflict at more than 300,000 and 400,000, respectively. This is while the UN has stopped its official casualty count in the Arab country, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
