Iran starts 3rd day of massive military maneuver

Iran has started the third day of a massive seven-day military drill with low-altitude missile and artillery systems firing at mock enemy aircrafts.

The major maneuver, codenamed Modafe’an-e Aseman-e Velayat 4 (Defenders of the Velayat Skies 4) was launched on Monday. It involves the country’s Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

During the third day of the drill on Wednesday, the two indigenous missile systems of Qader and Ya Zahra III were successfully tested.

The third day of the drill will also entail the testing of electronic and surveillance systems used to detect and intercept manned and unmanned enemy aircraft flying at low altitudes.

The F-14 and F-4 fighter jets of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force, guided by radar systems, are also scheduled to intercept and destroy targets on Wednesday.

Testing artillery fire, shoulder-launched weapons as well as low-altitude missile systems will also be on agenda on the maneuver’s third day. Anti-cruise missile defense systems will also be tested on Wednesday.

The drills cover an area of 950,000 square kilometers in the provinces of Khorasan Razavi, North Khorasan, South Khorasan, Sistan-and-Baluchestan, Hormozgan, Kerman and parts of Fars and Yazd provinces.
