Tajik President Invites Rouhani to Take Part in Int’l Conference

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani in Tehran has invited him to Tajikistan to attend an international conference in Dushanbe later this month, a senior official announced.
Tajikistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khosro Nazeri made the announcement saying said that the presence of President Rouhani in the forthcoming High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation in Dushanbe is of great importance given the lingual, cultural and religious affinities between Tajikistan and Iran.

“Islamic Republic of Iran is an important and strategic partner for my country,” the Tajik diplomat added.

He noted that the International Conference on Water Cooperation will be held in Dushanbe on August 20-22. “Delegations from 60 countries will participate in the conference,” Nazeri added.

The Tajik deputy foreign minister said that so far statesmen from 30 countries and representatives from 19 international institutions have accepted invitations to attend the event, and 52 more states have voiced readiness.

Nazeri said that a total of 800 experts and officials will participate in the international gathering.

The High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation aims to contribute to improving water cooperation, especially at the trans-boundary level and encourage cooperation to achieve internationally agreed goals on water.

The meeting will include high-level plenary sessions, parallel side events and thematic sessions on the role of water cooperation in reducing poverty, bringing social justice, economic benefits and peace, as well as protecting the environment.
