A1130466 (2)Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced on Thursday that his forces plan to put into operation a new warship and display a minesweeping system in the next few weeks.

“In the month of Ordibehesht (April 21 – May 21) Bayandor warship, which is equipped with new and advanced tools and systems, will be put into operation and also the Navy’s minesweeping system will be unveiled,” Sayyari told reporters on the sidelines of the military parades held in Tehran on the occasion of the National Army Day.

They will boost our capabilities in these fields, he added.

Sayyari at the same time stressed that Iran does not intend to invade other states, and stated that the country seeks to ensure security in the region.

In March, Iran launched its second Mowdge class destroyer, dubbed as ‘Jamaran 2’, after six years of relentless efforts by the country’s defense industry experts.

The advanced home-made destroyer was launched in the Caspian Sea in an official ceremony attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, and Iranian Rear Admiral Sayyari.

The Iranian Defense Ministry said at the time that the destroyer which has been designed and developed by Iranian experts uses the state-of-the-art navigation systems and domestically-made sophisticated defensive equipments.

Iran’s first home-made destroyer, Jamaran, was launched in late February 2010. The Mowdge Class vessel has a displacement of around 14,000 tons and is equipped with modern radars and electronic warfare capabilities and is armed with a variety of anti-ship, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles.
