At least 57 Palestinians have been detained by Israeli police forces in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) for being suspected of taking part in protests and clashes.

Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld announced the arrests on Wednesday.

The detainees have been accused of being involved in recent clashes that erupted during protests against Israel’s offensive against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Israeli police sources say some 40 Israeli police forces were injured in the clashes.

A total of 550 Palestinians have been arrested as part of Tel Aviv’s crackdown on protesters since Israel launched its aggression against Gaza on July 8.

Last week, the Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs said Israel had been withholding crucial information on the detainees and had been taking them to unknown locations.

The ministry also voiced concern that it feared some of the detainees had even been executed.

Nearly 1,960 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have so far lost their lives and at least 10,100 have been injured in the Israeli war, which began on July 8.

Hamas says more than 150 Israelis have been killed in the conflict.
