Tunisia’s Ennahda Party leader censures French interior minister

shirsoleiman20120713091749543The leader of Tunisia’s Ennahda Party has censured the French interior minister over his ‘disrespect’ for Tunisian people and little understanding of Islam.

Rashid al-Ghannushi said on Saturday that remarks by Manuel Valls about Islam were an insult to Tunisian people.

Valls recently commented on what he described as ‘Islamic fascism.’

The Ennahda leader also criticized the French minister for putting the Ennahda, the Muslim Brotherhood and the al-Qaeda terrorists in one category.

Ghannushi added that the current anti-France sentiment in Tunisia originates from such insulting remarks.

Valls has also said that Ennahda could have been behind the assassination of opposition politician Chokri Belaid, who was shot dead by unknown assailants outside his home on February 6.

Some analysts say that the assassination is highly suspicious and that it might have been orchestrated to turn the public against Ennahda.
