Iran, Iraq Agree to Boost Security Cooperation against Takfiri Terrorists

Senior Iranian and Iraqi defense officials struck an agreement on widening defense and security cooperation between the two states and intensify joint actions against ISIL and other Takfiri terrorists.

The agreement was made during the second round of talks between visiting Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and his Iraqi counterpart Brigadier General Khaled al-Obeidi in Baghdad on Tuesday.

At the meeting, the two top defense officials discussed the latest conditions in Iraq’s war on ISIL, and studied possible ways to imeplement their agreements on widening defense and security cooperation and intensified campaign against ISIL.

General Dehqan, who is visiting Baghdad to boost the two states’ defense cooperation and review the latest conditions in Iraq’s battlefronts in the war on ISIL, has had meetings with a wide range of top officials in Baghdad, including Iraqi Interior Minister Mohammed Salem al-Ghabban and Prime Minister Heidar al-Abadi.

The Iranian minister who is also slated to meet the chairman and members of the Iraqi parliament’s defense and security commission, had his first round of talks with his General al-Obeidi yesterday, where Dehqan vowed that Tehran would stand beside the Iraqi nation and government with maximum power.

General Dehqan is also due to meet influential Shiite leader Ammar al-Hakim, who heads the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) that has large groups of volunteer forces in the war against ISIL.
