The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei receives literary figures, veteran poets

On the eve of the birth anniversary of the 2nd Infallible Successor to Prophet Mohammad (SAWA), Imam Hassan Mojtaba (PBUH), the Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei, received the national literary figures, the country’s young and veteran poets, and a number of Farsi-language poets of Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and India.

According to IRIB World Service, in this meeting, the Leader referred to Iran’s significant and continuous progress in the realm of poetry. The Leader added that poetry is one of the most prominent arts, and poets shoulder a major responsibility toward the country’s topics of importance and the historical and inspirational Islamic Revolution; and they should use this prominent art at the service of these major responsibilities.

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed  Ali Khamenei named human emotions, heavy-heartedness, and thoughts of the poet as the three elements which shape poetry, while adding that expression of poetic emotions and heavy-heartedness about what goes on in life are two elements of poetry which have been recognized. But, prudence and thoughts in poetry should not be neglected due to extremism in the two said elements.

Referring to the poetry of renowned Iranian poets such as Sa’adi and Hafez, Imam Khamenei underlined that the poems of these well-established literary figures express their emotions and heavy-heartedness. Meanwhile, prudence and thoughts are also widely evident in their poems and in fact it is the prudent thoughts that set the stage for ascension of poetry and poets to the pinnacles.

The Supreme Leader underscored that Islamic teachings, Islamic lifestyle, prudent thoughts, and the essential means for the learning process in human beings should not be neglected in poetry.

In further remarks, Imam Khamenei underscored that the poet shoulders responsibility toward the community’s topics of importance, adding that today the huge and historical movement of the Iranian nation inspired the international community, and the issue of Islamic Revolution and steadfastness against the domineering powers and Global Arrogance’s bullying should be manifested in the poems of poets.

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei also referred to the eight-year Jihad during the Sacred Defense era, Jihad for development of an Islamic community; Jihad for reformation of the lifestyle, Jihad for reinforcement of the national strength, and topics of importance such as the Islamic awakening and the Palestinian cause as the other important subjects that should be taken into consideration in composition of poems by poets.

The last advice of Imam Khamenei to the literary figures has been to pay special attention to the children poetry, while adding that along with promotion of young talents, it is necessary to include Islamic and Iranian wisdom in Farsi poems.

Prior to the remarks of Imam Khamenei, a number of poets read their poems on moral, religious, political, revolutionary, and social topics of importance.

At the beginning of this meeting, the poets spoke with The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei in a friendly and amicable atmosphere.
