The Participation of Parliamentary Elections Amounted to 51.26 percentage in Syria

The Higher Committee for Elections on Tuesday announced results of the People’s Assembly elections (Parliament) for the first legislative term under the new constitution where the percentage of the participation reached 51.26.

Chairman of the Higher Committee for Elections, Judge Khalaf al-Azzawi said the elections were held under the new Constitution and the General Election Law No. 101 for 2011 where the citizens exercised their electoral right and national duty to choose their representatives to parliament with a high level of awareness in an atmosphere of freedom, democracy and transparency.

Al-Azzawi added that the elections on May 7 were held under the basic principles of the new constitution which stipulates that people are the source of authorities and the rule of people is by people and for people. ” The election operations were made under full and direct judicial supervision of the Higher Committee and the sub-committees in the electoral districts.”

Judge al-Azzawi made it clear that the number of registered electors mounted to 5.186.957 out of 10.118.519 electors eligible. He noted that 30 women were elected.
