Lebanon Blocks Airspace to ‘israeli’-Owned Airline

Lebanon has forbidden TUS AIR, an airline from Cyprus, from entering its airspace or touching down at its international airport because of its Israeli ownership.

Fadi Al-Hassan, Director General of the Lebanese Civil Aviation Authority, announced in a statement released by the state-run Lebanese National News Agency that a Cypriot company has become 49.9% owned by the Israeli company “Knafaim Holdings Ltd.” as reported by Almayadeen.

In 2017, an agreement between Lebanon and Cyprus resulted in TUS AIR being appointed by the Cypriot Civil Aviation Authority to invest in air transport services between the two countries. Al-Hassan was informed of this in a letter from the Authority.

The Lebanese official declared that the ban of any form of dealing with the specified company will remain in effect until further notice, pending the outcomes of the upcoming conference of the liaison officers of regional offices regarding the boycott of Israel.

The General Directorate of Economy and Commerce was asked by the Lebanese Civil Aviation Authority to look into the status of the company, due to their request that companies of a similar status, such as Aerosvit Ukrainian Airlines and the Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA), not be dealt with.
