Thousands of Lebanese attend Tasu’a ceremonies

People from all walks of life dressed in black and attended the Tasu’a mourning ceremonies in the Lebanese capital Beirut to mark the eve of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein.

Mourners paid tribute to the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad by listening to sorrowful recitations and eulogies that narrate the events of Karbala.

In a speech commemorating the event, leader of the Hezbollah resistance movement said the events of Karbala 14,000 years ago are being relived today. Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah called on the followers of Imam Hussein to support the resistance front in its fight against the US and Israel.

In honor of the occasion, mourners chanted slogans for the love of Imam Hussein.

They also voiced their renewal of allegiance to Imam Hussein and his ultimate standing against tyranny.

Imam Hussein and 72 of his companions were martyred on the tenth day of Muharram during the Battle of Karbala 1400 years ago in a fight for justice against then-tyrant Yazid.

Even after 14 centuries, Imam Hussein holds a special place in the hearts of Shia Muslims who each year praise and mourn this tragedy. Imam Hussein and his family are remembered as an emblem for self-sacrifice, devotion, and love.
