Leader: Post-election unrest pre-planned

Seyyed-Ali-Khamenei

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the post-election unrest in Iran was pre-planned.

“I don’t accuse the leaders of the recent incidents of being affiliated with foreign countries, including the US and Britain, since the issue has not been proven for me,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with a group of university students in Tehran on Wednesday.

“But there is no doubt that the events were planned, no matter whether their leaders knew it or not,” IRNA quoted the Leader as saying.

The Leader also said that the judiciary should try the detainees of the recent unrest based on strong evidence and they should not use “rumors” as the basis for their prosecution.

The unrest began in the country following the June 12 presidential elections. While the defeated candidates alleged that the vote had been rigged, the Guardian Council, the body in charge of supervising the elections dismissed the allegations.
