Turkish mine explosion tragedy should have been averted

As new graves are being dug in the town cemetery of Soma, rescue teams are still trying to reach some 280 people still missing in Turkey’s worst mining disaster.

There has been intense speculation on Turkish social media about events inside the mine in the aftermath of Tuesday’s explosion – including reports of dozens of dead bodies piled together in tunnels.

Rescue worker Ugur Acar spoke to BBC Turkish’s Sinan Okus about the dire situation inside the mine.
