Turkish capital rocked by large explosion, killing 28

At least 28 people were killed and 60 others were injured when a large explosion rocked the Turkish capital, Ankara, today with initial reports suggesting massive damage to nearby buildings.

Turkish media said the explosion occurred near military buildings in central Ankara, with early reports saying it was caused by a car bomb blast.

According to early reports, 60 people have been also injured with ambulances rushing to the scene of the blast. As the situation unfolds social media users are posting photos of smoke rising from a spot in the center of the city.

Locals said the sound of the blast could be heard from many spots around Ankara. They said a large fire and dark smoke could be seen billowing from a distance.

Back in October 2015, two large explosions rocked the Turkish capital, killing about 100 people and injuring more than 240. The deadly blasts took place near the city’s central train station where people had gathered for a political rally.
