The Syrian army troops engaged in fierce battles with ISIL terrorists in Deir Ezzur province amid heavy airstrikes and artillery attacks.

The Syrian army engaged in clashes with ISL militants in al-Jafreh village in Deir Ezzur province, killing and injuring a group of them, a field source said Monday.

The Syrian army also fired artillery shells at militants’ positions in the villages of Hatla, al-Husseiniya, al-Junaynah in the province, according to the source.

The news comes as the Syrian warplanes bombed militants’ positions in al-Hwaiqa neighborhood in Deir Ezzur city.

Meanwhile, the Syrian army fired artillery shells at militants’ positions in the towns of Jibbat al-Khashab and al-Hamidiyah in Quneitra province, the source added.

On Saturday, provincial sources announced  that the Syrian Army has fended off ISIL’s repeated offensives on government forces’ positions in the province of Deir Ezzur and killed more than 40 of them in 48 hours.

“The Syrian army repelled the ISIL attempts to infiltrated into the government forces’ defense lines in al-Sina’ah (Industrial) area in the last two days, killed over 40 terrorists and wounded many more,” the sources said Saturday.

“The ISIL strongholds near al-Mura’yeh were targeted and destroyed by the Syrian fighter jets,” the sources said, adding, “The airstrikes also claimed the lives of many terrorists.”

Once Deir Ezzur province was a heaven-like stronghold of the ISIL, but now the Syrian army, popular forces and the Syrian and Russian air forces have no left even one safe spot for them across the Eastern province.
