A US airstrike has claimed the lives of at least two people in Afghanistan’s central province of Maidan Wardak, Press TV reports.

According to Afghan sources, the US airstrike was carried out early Wednesday in the central province’s Nerkh district.

The US military has confirmed that it has carried out the attack, claiming the victims were Taliban militants.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.

On August 26, seven people were killed in an overnight US airstrike in the northeastern Kunar Province.

On August 7, 11 children and two Afghan women were killed in an airstrike launched by US-led forces in the eastern province of Kunar.

Many people have lost their lives in US-led operations in various parts of Afghanistan over the past decade, with Afghans becoming increasingly outraged at the rising number of the deadly assaults.

Although Washington has repeatedly claimed that its airstrikes target militants, local sources say civilians are the main victims of the attack.

Violence continues to plague Afghanistan despite the presence of thousands of foreign forces, more than a decade after the US-led invasion of the country in 2001.
