Two more NATO soldiers fall in Afghanistan

US-led NATO forces confirm that two more of their soldiers have been killed in separate incidents in war-torn Afghanistan.

Both soldiers were killed on Saturday, one in the country’s east and the other in the south, NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in two brief statements on Sunday. The two were not involved in ‘Operation Moshtark’ against the Taliban in southern Afghanistan.

Two dozen foreign troops have been killed since the high-profile offensive was launched in the southern province of Helmand. Half of them have been killed as a direct result of the operation, which is aimed at ridding Helmand of militants.

Some 15,000 troopers are involved in Operation Moshtarak which was launched in the Marjah and Nad Ali areas of Helmand on February 13.

The widely-publicized campaign, allegedly intended to purge militant strongholds in the area and establish Afghan governance, has left thousands of locals homeless.
