Iran hosting second meeting of friends of Syria

Tehran is holding the second meeting of heads of parliamentary foreign policy committees of friends of Syria countries.
Parliamentary representatives from 25 countries attended the conference on Sunday.
High-ranking Iranian officials also attended the inauguration of the conference, which is directed by Chairman of Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi.
Iran Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also addressed the event.
The heads of all the participating parliamentary delegations are scheduled to deliver speeches in the Sunday session.
The meeting is in line with Iran’s policy to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Syria and establish peace and security in the Arab country, which serves as the front-line of anti-Israel resistance in the region.
The first meeting of this kind was held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, in March, bringing together delegations from Russia, Algeria, Lebanon, Iraq, Venezuela, Syria and Iran.
Some reports say over 160,000 people have been killed in more than three years of turmoil that has gripped Syria since March 2011. Millions have also been displaced.
A British defense study showed that about 100,000 militants, fragmented into 1,000 groups, are fighting in Syria against the government and people.
