British and American intelligence officers are contacting Syrian Kurds to provoke them against the Syrian government, European sources have revealed.

Iraqi news website Nahrainnet quoted European sources as saying that the US and the UK are trying to convince Kurds to launch “an all-out revolt” against the Syrian government.

The report said the new moves by Washington and London follow the Syrian army’s victories over the foreign-sponsored insurgents in Syria, adding that the plot aims to “open a new front against [Syrian President] Bashar al-Assad.”

The conspiracy led by the UK spy agency, MI6, and the US intelligence officials has become possible through Iraqi Kurd leaders who have acted as go-betweens, the report adds.

London and Washington have promised financial and military support to the Syrian Kurds if they agree to fight the Syrian army.

The report follows revelations that UK Prime Minister David Cameron has asked the European Union to rethink its embargo on arming terrorists in Syria under the pretext of recognizing their “right to self-defense.”

The prospect of the UK and the US arming the Syrian Kurds is expected to outrage Turkey, which is fighting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party members.

Infiltration of the PKK into Syria and Kurds’ support for the militants will create a headache for Ankara, which is now busy fighting the PKK at Iraqi borders.
