Former Texas congressman Ron Paul believes that the United States did not catch former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in order to attack other countries.

In a radio interview that was published by BuzzFeed on Wednesday, he explained Washington’s strategy following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

“They knew where Bin Laden was. I don’t think they really wanted to catch him because he was used as the excuse for us, you know, invading various countries and building up the military,” Paul said.

“If you had a private force that was going to be paid to go over and get him [bin Laden] because they had pretty good knowledge of where he was and taking care of him early on, just think of the benefits that would have come from a very, very narrowed approach to, you know, going after those people that were participating in 9/11,” Paul said.

Washington announced on May 2, 2011 that bin Laden was killed by US forces in his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

A number of media reports later said the US government was moving to hide files about the US military’s suspected raid on Osama bin Laden.

The lack of transparency over bin Laden’s death has cast further doubt over the announcement.

In an article on Monday, Paul said the United States will go broke by the Obama administration’s policy of making new wars around the world, criticizing Washington’s foreign adventurism.

The former presidential candidate warned about economic catastrophe by Washington’s interventionists in both Republican and Democratic parties.
