The international department of Iran’s Human Rights Headquarters announced on Saturday the launch of a website to inform people of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of human rights situation in the country as well as the progress and achievements in this field.

The website which is available in both Persian and English languages includes introduction of the UPR, Iran’s recommendations to other countries in the first and second periods, Iran’s UPR in the first and second periods, the human rights progress in Iran in 20 fields by 2015 and the UPR’s midterm report on the human rights achievements in the third period in 24 fields in 2016-2017.

The website is available at: www.iranupr.ir (also org, net and com) and www.upriran.ir (also net and com).

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is an important way the United Nations helps promote human rights worldwide.

The UPR is a peer-review mechanism by which a country’s entire human rights record is scrutinized by UN member states and observers.

All countries voluntarily undergo a UPR about every four years at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. During the UPR, states make recommendations to the country under review. The reviewed country can then reject or accept each recommendation, thus taking before the international community a commitment to implement those recommendations it has accepted.

During the first review in 2010, Iran received 212 recommendations from 51 countries and accepted 123 recommendations.
