McCain tells Obama to send more troops to Afghanistan

US Senator John McCain has advised President Barack Obama to follow the recommendations of his top general in Afghanistan, who has called for an increase in troop levels.

The Arizona Republican warned Obama on Tuesday that he will be risking American lives if he does not send more troops to Afghanistan.

“Every day that goes by, if you do not pursue a strategy of success and end the war as quickly as possible, it puts more Americans’ lives in more danger,” McCain said.

President Obama has been weighing his options since the US commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, said on Monday that extra troops are needed within the next year or else the war “will likely result in failure.”

McCain also conceded that presidents should have the chance to deliberate about such foreign policy matters.

However, he insisted that Obama has already had more than ample time to consider the best course of action in the eight-year war.
