Iran briefs NAM ambassadors on IAEA talks

myriam20130209102506240The Iranian envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says Iran has held a briefing about its nuclear energy program for the ambassadors of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries to the UN nuclear agency’s Board of Governors.

Ali Asghar Soltanieh said on Saturday that the ambassadors had required information about Iran’s previous and upcoming talks with the IAEA. The briefing was held on Friday at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna, he stated.

Iran and the IAEA held a two-day meeting in Tehran on January 17-18 and agreed to hold the next round of negotiations on February 12 or 13.

“Considering the valuable support of NAM over the past ten years for Iran’s nuclear energy program, the Islamic Republic regularly informs the movement’s members at the UN nuclear agency about its latest cooperation with the agency,” Soltanieh said.

The Iranian official added that another briefing would be arranged after an upcoming meeting between Iranian and IAEA representatives.

The United States, the Israeli regime and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran argues that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it is entitled to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
