Rouhani hails inauguration of Hamedan-Tehran railway

President Hassan Rouhani here on Monday praised inauguration of the Hamedan-Tehran railway, describing it as realization of high aspirations of the people in the western province.

Now, with the launch of the railway route from Hamedan to Tehran, the province is connected to the cross-country railway system, President Rouhani said during a ceremony held to celebrate opening of the Hamedan-Tehran railway on Monday.

“The inauguration of the railway route was a source of joy as the people in the province have been waiting for it for a long time,” he said.

President is paying a day-long official visit to the western province and is expected to address people in Hamedan’s main sport stadium later in the day.

Construction of Hamedan-Tehran 268-km railway project was approved during Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khameni’s visit to the region in 2004 and was completed with a budget of 9.7bn rials ($29.7m).

The railway project development was halted during the sanctions era and completed after implementation of the nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
