Velayati Expresses Surprise Over Turkey’s Involvement in Alleged US-Israeli Plan in Syria
Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has voiced astonishment at Turkey's recent entanglement in what he describes as a strategic trap orchestrated by the United States and Israel in Syria.

In a Tuesday interview with Tasnim, Velayati expressed surprise at Turkey’s policies regarding Syria, noting that these measures are being executed in the name of the Turkish population, who have historically exhibited a strong religious commitment to defending Islam.
A spokesperson noted that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, recognized for his extensive expertise in intelligence and foreign policy, is anticipated to tackle several challenges within Turkey’s foreign policy framework. The spokesperson expressed surprise, adding, “It was unforeseen that Turkey, with its rich Islamic heritage, could potentially become ensnared in complex geopolitical dynamics orchestrated by the United States and Zionist entities in Syria.”
Velayati stated that over a century ago, a group of Zionists approached Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid with a proposal to buy Palestine to establish a settlement for Jewish people. However, the Sultan reportedly dismissed the idea, asserting that it was impossible to dissect a living body.
In a recent statement, Velayati asserted that the United States, Israel, and regional nations, encompassing both Arab and non-Arab states, must recognize Iran’s unwavering support for the Syrian government until the conclusion of their efforts.
He observed that the current level of support for Syria surpasses that of 2011, when the conflict initially erupted in the Arab nation. “In addition to Iran, Russia, and the increasingly robust Hezbollah in Lebanon, Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi—a formidable force—the resilient Houthis of Yemen, and the esteemed Palestinians are collectively committed to backing Syria’s territorial integrity and its standing government,” he stated.
In other developments, Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor, urged US President-elect Donald Trump to recognize that the departing Democratic administration has not succeeded in enhancing the United States’ global policies. Instead, he claimed, it has exacerbated international conflicts and risks further intensifying wars worldwide rather than resolving them.
He advised former President Donald Trump that for a prudent approach in his potential new term, it is essential to draw lessons from his first tenure and recognize that current global circumstances are more complex than during his previous administration.
Velayati asserted that no sovereign nation would succumb to pressure or threats from former U.S. President Donald Trump.
