Velayati: Iran Supports Dialogue in Syria Based on the Syrian People’s Desire

Advisor of the Iranian Islamic Revolution’s Supreme Leader for International Affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, affirmed that Iran supports Syria due to it important role in the resistance, and that it supports dialogue and reform in it based on the Syrian people’s desire, not the west’s desire, and without violence or help from the US and regressive countries like Qatar which arms militants brought from Somalia and Afghanistan to commit massacres in Syria.

In an interview with al-Mayadin TV on Friday, Velayati reiterated that what is currently happening in Syria is an external conspiracy, noting that some opposition leaders admitted that if they rise to power, then they will establish relations with Israel, cease supporting the resistance in Lebanon, and sever relations with Iran.

He pointed out that Iran’s support for Syria seeks to prevent the fall of the resistance against Israel, affirming that Turkey is making a big mistake by thinking that it can topple the Syrian government with help from the US, Qatar, Israel and Al Qaeda and impose a figure like Mohamed Morsi as a ruler in Damascus.

Velayati stressed that the Syrian government will not be toppled no matter how much funds, weapons and support are used by Qatar, the US, France and Al Qaeda, noting that while Saudi Arabia’s position is similar to Qatar’s, it started to change in recent months after understanding the reality of the situation, with the Saudi Foreign Minister saying that the solution in Syria is political, unlike Qatar’s position which remains the same as its Foreign Minister calls for sending forces into Syria to topple the government.

The Advisor affirmed his country’s belief that there can be no military solution to the crisis in Syria; rather there can only be a solution through dialogue without foreign intervention and with the cessation of supporting the militants by certain countries.

He said that the repercussions of what is happening in Syria will affect all the region’s countries, and that the Islamic world will be harmed the most and Islam’s enemies will be the primary beneficiaries.

Velayati pointed out that Syria is a member of the UN and that no country has the right to demand that the Syrian government and President Bashar al-Assad remain or leave, because that is a matter for the people, and President al-Assad was elected legitimately and he himself stressed the Syrians’ right to choose their leaders.

He note that Qatar is ruled by a hereditary regime based on an outdate system, and the Qatari government didn’t reach power through votes, yet the UN acknowledge this country, stressing that interfering in who rules Syria means that the west will interfere in who becomes president in a country in the future, contradicting the international norms of sovereignty.

Velayati went on to stress the need for unity among Muslims and abandoning disputes in order for them to play a role in the new multi-polar world and to confront their enemies who set aside their own differences and untied against them.

He concluded by stressing that dividing the Islamic world and sowing sedition among its countries and peoples only benefits the enemies of the nation, stressing that the problems taking place in Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, North Africa, Yemen and Bahrain are due to external causes, not internal ones.

Boroujerdi.. Armed groups’ Allegations of Iranian intervention in Syria express their frustration

Chairman of the National security and Foreign Policy Committee at the Iranian Shura Council Ala al-Din Boroujerdi underlined that allegations of armed terrorist groups in Syria of an Iranian intervention in Syria’s domestic affairs was because of their frustration at the attempts to change the political structure in the country.

“Though the crisis in Syria entered its second year and Qatar, Saudi Arabia are funding the armed groups with billions of dollar as well as sending terrorists, their attempts to change the political regime in Syria have failed,” Boroujerdi said in a statement to Iranian ISNA news agency.

He affirmed that Iran, along with Russia and China will strongly support Syria because it is the resistance front against the Zionist entity in the region.
